Amanda Bynes has been hospitalized and placed in involuntary psychiatric care shortly after arriving in Los Angeles from New York on Friday, according to media reports. The news comes after the troubled actress accused her father of sexual abuse.
Bynes was reportedly admitted to a Pasadena hospital and has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold where she will be held for 72 hours. The hold could be extended to up to two weeks, TMZ reported. The 28-year-old actress has been known for her strange public behavior and several legal troubles in recent years.
According to TMZ, Bynes was expecting a car service to take her to The London Hotel where her parents and their attorney awaited. But, her parents had made arrangements with the car service to take her to the hospital instead. Bynes’ family attorney Tamar Arminak was reportedly waiting at the hospital with the doctors.
The news comes hours after the actress took to Twitter accusing her father of sexually abusing her as a child. She later wrote a retraction on Twitter, blaming the comments on a “microchip” in her head.
Bynes’ mother responded to the allegations, in a statement to E! News, through her attorney denying the claims.
“I am heartbroken today for my husband of 47 years,” she said. “Rick has been the best father and husband a family can ask for. He has never abused Amanda or our other children physically or sexually. These accusations are absolutely horrible and could not be further from the truth! These allegations stem from Amanda’s mental state at the moment. They have no basis in reality. It saddens me beyond belief that my husband’s character could be slandered in such a way.”
According to reports, Bynes was accused of trying to shoplift in a New York City boutique, and TMZ later posted a video of her dancing in the store.
She was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs in Los Angeles on Sept. 28, the California Highway Patrol reportedly said. She was reportedly released hours later after posting $15,000 bail with a court date set for Oct. 21.
